What to do:
- Talk with her and listen to her. Ask her how she is feeling and try to listen for wats that you might be able to help or be there for her. Sometimes the best course of action is to just be there for her.
- Talk with the people who care for her. Offer to be there for help when she tells her parents, the child’s father, or any others who need to know that she is pregnant. Listen for ways that you might be able to help her think through who she needs to tell and when.

What not to do:
- Do not shame her. It is likely that she is already feeling guilt, shame, or embarrassment. Be a safe person for her. Try to stay positive and encouraging.
- Don’t pressure her. You might know what you would want to do if you were in her situation, but she is the one who needs to make the decision. She has some very hard choices to make and she needs to know that you will be with her no matter what.
- Don’t cut her off. Most women or girls in an unplanned pregnancy already struggle with feeling alone. Make sure that she knows you will stay with her and listen to her no matter what.
